We’ll set off to visit the Centre of Modern day Irish Poetry and home place of Nobel prize winning poet Seamus Heaney. After soaking up some of the most beautiful poetry we will set off to Derry/Londonderry. Derry is famed for it’s walls and the siege of Derry dating back to 1610, we’ll take a walking tour of the infamous walls. Whilst in Derry we’ll also visit the bogside known worldwide because of the civil rights march that turned into Bloody Sunday 1972, these events also formed the inspiration for U2’s song ‘Bloody Sunday’. After some lunch we’ll travel over the border and into the republic of Ireland and into Donegal. Here we’ll visit the Celtic ring fort called Grianan of Aileach before driving out to the most northern part of Ireland called Malin Head. This point has also been home to the filming of the latest edition of the Star Wars films. After this we’ll take the journey back to Belfast stopping for a stretch of the legs along the beautiful Sperrin mountains, the wildest mountain range in Ireland.
