We’ll set off to visit the Centre of Modern-day Irish Poetry and the home place of Nobel prize-winning poet Seamus Heaney. After soaking up some of the most beautiful poetry we will set off to Derry/Londonderry. Derry is famed for its walls and the siege of Derry dating back to 1610, we’ll take a walking tour of the infamous walls. Whilst in Derry we’ll also visit the Bogside known worldwide because of the civil rights march that turned into Bloody Sunday 1972, these events also formed the inspiration for U2’s song ‘Bloody Sunday’. After some lunch, we’ll travel over the border and into the republic of Ireland and into Donegal. Here we’ll visit the Celtic ring fort called Grianan of Aileach, then off to Glenshane country farm for a special sheepdog display, and a pint of Guinness in Ireland’s highest pub the ponderosa. After this, we’ll take the journey back to Belfast stopping for a stretch of the legs along the beautiful Sperrin mountains, the wildest mountain range in Ireland.
